The North Omaha B.E.A.R.S. Program consists of three components--academics, athletics, and social enhancement. All children must participate in all three components.
Our children are tutored once a week in the area where they have the most need. Because of our collaboration with the largest elementary school in the inner city--Skinner Magnet Center, and its very progressive and community oriented principal Mr. Elmer Crumbley, we use computers and software located in their computer laboratory for our tutoring classes. This software is so sophisticated that a student's tutoring can be pinpointed to a specific area within a core subject where that student needs to direct his attention.
Parent's permit teachers or others within the school system to collaborate with us on whatever tutoring would best serve the child.
And, very importantly, this method of tutoring means that every child in the program has hands-on familiarity with the computer.
Plans are underway to offer parents a computer familiarization course which will include introduction to the Internet.
