B.E.A.R.S. Lose Heartbreaker to Philadelphia, 69-68
(Los Angeles, July 21st, 2000) The North Omaha B.E.A.R.S. high school all-star basketball team lost to number one seeded Philadelphia on a buzzer beating 3 pointer as the horn sounded. The B.E.A.R.S. were ahead by 2 points with about 10 seconds left on the clock, when the Philadelphia team stole a pass and came down the floor and launched the winning 3 pointer. To many observers, the shot left the shooter's hand after the horn had sounded, but the protests of the B.E.A.R.S. coaches were to no avail.
The game's ending really put a damper on a tremendous performance on the part of the B.E.A.R.S., particularly in the 1st half. The B.E.A.R.S. held a 20 point lead at the half, only to struggle offensively in the second half and to allow a Philadelphia team to get themselves back into the game. The B.E.A.R.S. were led by Kris Kuhn with 17 points, Richard Williams with 16 points, Damione Liddell with 11 points and 7 rebounds, Andrew Ford with 8 points, and Raymond Lytle and Marlon Carter with 6 points apiece. The B.E.A.R.S. will play a 10:00 am game on Saturday, July 22nd, against the Long Island Panthers, another top seeded team. #FF4500

B.E.A.R.S. Finish Adidas Tourney 2-2
After winning its first game of the Adidas Bigtime tournament, the North Omaha B.E.A.R.S. team dropped its second game to the Eisenhower Cadets of Seattle, Washington. It was an exciting game despite the poor shooting of the B.E.A.R.S.. After trailing by 13 points, the B.E.A.R.S. pressed the Cadets to come within 6 points late in the 2nd half, but failed to maintain their energy level for the entire game, coming up on the losing end, 59-45. The B.E.A.R.S. were lead in scoring by Andrew Ford with 18 points and Javelle Kimmons 9 rebounds.
The B.E.A.R.S. bounced back the same night with a 94-68 victory over the El Camino, Eagles. The B.E.A.R.S. dominated this game from the start to the finish. There were several players that contributed heavily to the scoring, led by Damione Liddell with 24 points, Javelle Kimmons with 16 points, Kris Kuhn with 15 points, Andrew Ford with 11 points, and Marlon Carter with 7 points. This victory gave the B.E.A.R.S. a 3-way tie for first place in its pool. However, a points system gave the B.E.A.R.S. a second place pool finish, advancing the team to the A Division tournament.
The B.E.A.R.S. first opponent in the A Division tournament was the Minnesota Select Senior Team. After a well played first quarter, the B.E.A.R.S. really struggled with their shooting for most of the remainder of the game. After trailing by 15 points, the B.E.A.R.S. fought back to within 7 points, only to commit successive turnovers and put the deficit back in double figures, and ultimately losing 78-59. The B.E.A.R.S. were led in scoring with 11 points apiece from Richard Williams and Kris Kuhn. Damione Liddell followed with 10 points, Raymond Lytle with 8 points and Javelle Kimmons with 7. This game ended the B.E.A.R.S. participation in the Adidas tournament.
