Bears beaten by Shockers
Kansas City, Mo. -- The Nebraska B.E.A.R.S. were stunned last night in Kansas City, 48-13 by a Kansas City Shocker's team that was clicking on all cylinders. It was a game that saw the B.E.A.R.S. trying to compete with several of its players having to play both offense and defense. According to head coach Rick Smith, "Due to circumstances, we had to play iron-man football with several guys having to play both ways. I'm pleased with our effort under the extremely hot conditions, but we definitely need some additional players in certain spots. In order to be competitive in this division, we have to obtain some additional quality ball players to go along with what we have."

The Shockers took control of the game early, and had a 42-0 halftime lead. The Bears did manage to put 13 points on the board in the second half, including a pass from Chuck Wright to Tommie Williams on the game's final play.

The B.E.A.R.S. will travel to Norfolk, Nebraska on Saturday, July 30th, to take on the Norfolk Thunderbirds.

Bears open outdoor season with win
Omaha -- On Saturday night, the Nebraska B.E.A.R.S. opened its run at a sixth consecutive North Central Division title with a 17-6 win over the Northwest Iowa Bruisers in Paullina, Iowa.

Head Coach Rick Smith was very satisfied with the win on the road, considering the very young squad that he fielded for this upcoming season. "We have some reinforcements coming that will definitely make a difference for us, but I am very happy and satisfied at how my young guys played."

The Nebraska B.E.A.R.S. defense dominated the Bruisers throughout the game, with the only Bruiser points coming on a punt snap over the punter's head into the Bear's end zone which was recovered for a Bruiser touchdown. The Bruiser's were held to 75 yards total offense, and struggled against the very quick and aggressive B.E.A.R.S. all night long.

Offensively, the B.E.A.R.S. took over the game in the 2nd half with drives that consistently ended up in Bruiser territory. However, inconsistent offensive play, particularly in scoring territory, kept the score close.

The B.E.A.R.S. will travel to Kansas City next Saturday night, July 23rd, to play the Kansas City Shockers in a very tough match up.

A detailed summary of Saturday night's game will be coming on Monday.
